As we are gearing up for this year’s children’s book festival, here is some information from last year’s 10th Anniversary of Claire’s Day! More than 10,000 children were provided meaningful literary experiences that will encourage life-long reading:
- 25 area schools hosted an author or illustrator on Friday, May 20. These visits included educational presentations and story telling that encouraged the students to use their imagination and to pursue reading as a regular activity. The combined student population of these schools that were exposed to a positive literary experience by meeting with a children’s book author or illustrator is 9, 640.
- An estimated 5,000 people attended the festival and participated in crafts, author presentations, book signings, and more fun activities!
- 313 students who are no normally recognized for any form of academic achievement were given a C.A.R.E. Award for being the most improved reader in their class
- Approximately 400 children were given a new book at no cost to their family.
